(Garden Edition)<div style="text-align: center;">
This spring, a new plant appeared in our garden. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt7mAvRLof93ANjZcRVeb2XhGyCtZ7QTiKlZox36szM5Vy7kikdY6Yvqc2jA-M0B-8oxPUtDQKuox1Z0MCIrArIYkLxbBNq3r6gzzmzG0SZx3ZlsJ9UIP7j9lVZvp4wHMC3ZP-UfFzEno/s768/flowers+(Medium).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt7mAvRLof93ANjZcRVeb2XhGyCtZ7QTiKlZox36szM5Vy7kikdY6Yvqc2jA-M0B-8oxPUtDQKuox1Z0MCIrArIYkLxbBNq3r6gzzmzG0SZx3ZlsJ9UIP7j9lVZvp4wHMC3ZP-UfFzEno/s320/flowers+(Medium).JPG" width="264" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The flowers are about 2 inches long. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-IoAckNqhCE85NF6mkeZYeCBvTh9edG8011TwByaQwA0RyeAFfo2eLbVt774INUufr7GOcPX9T_TmgJym5Vng3i_zBb6N-qA8-r4f9F_2asdbe4TJmVoURmKip7-2TJ-HWkroU0h7-ug/s768/leaves+too+(Medium).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-IoAckNqhCE85NF6mkeZYeCBvTh9edG8011TwByaQwA0RyeAFfo2eLbVt774INUufr7GOcPX9T_TmgJym5Vng3i_zBb6N-qA8-r4f9F_2asdbe4TJmVoURmKip7-2TJ-HWkroU0h7-ug/s320/leaves+too+(Medium).JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
It moved in on top of some coral bells. (I hope I can separate them next spring!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The plant on the left is a toad lily from <a href="http://www.rollinggreennursery.com/">Rolling Green Nursery</a> that I added to the garden last fall.
I wonder if seeds for my new garden volunteer hitchhiked on that toad lily somehow.<br />
<br />
If you know what this plant is, please let me know in the comments or via email!!! Thank you!!!Life Looms Largehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05522897791564181980noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3635600553883200682.post-13451554745087621222012-05-26T14:11:00.000-04:002012-05-26T14:11:00.066-04:00Red Camo Hat<br />
<br />
<br />
In February, <a href="http://newfieldsart.org/">Main Street Art</a> held their first annual Knit In.<br />
<br />
They provided a meeting place, yarn (including donated yarn from <a href="http://www.riversleafarm.com/wool-products.htm">Riverslea Farm</a>), knitting patterns, camaraderie and excellent snacks from private sources and the Newfields General Store.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVh8Q1Vc5x5TcY0PRFM-wtNRv_7eWrSVheAgK2ezipl62VMr2WLLDZDIXuCLKD_NobhU9CLgp1e3XIC5zp9uNYIJa4fm_Z2r_aB0BX_eC6E-D9BP1YuscrYoBJqpBBdMbLqLyJEeFFL3U/s1600/red+hat+%2528Medium%2529.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708323890597010962" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVh8Q1Vc5x5TcY0PRFM-wtNRv_7eWrSVheAgK2ezipl62VMr2WLLDZDIXuCLKD_NobhU9CLgp1e3XIC5zp9uNYIJa4fm_Z2r_aB0BX_eC6E-D9BP1YuscrYoBJqpBBdMbLqLyJEeFFL3U/s400/red+hat+%2528Medium%2529.JPG" style="display: block; height: 400px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 333px;" /></a></div>
<br />
The drop-in knitters provided our labor and good company.<br />
<br />
From those ingredients, this red camo hat was created.<br />
<br />
Inspiration & Motivation:<br />
<ul>
<li>Join the fun at <a href="http://www.newfieldsart.org/">Main Street Art</a></li>
<li>Contribute a well-made, warm hat to <a href="http://www.newhorizonsfornh.org/">New Horizons of New Hampshire</a></li>
<li>I chose this gorgeous red yarn from a bin of different yarns because I loved the cheeriness of this color</li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKuac80MtU2yyUNBzEAS4F26g0U8CLQM1nga8anjmy8gfGZsEEurF0JW-3qGVDVX5zINa9pF2uYNiEy0miZTMgVKIX8d4O9jD7Ox0MQu676TuP4HNsGjDLTH_hqQN_FSDMN_UiDVPBnoI/s1600/decrease+%2528Medium%2529.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708323869514043602" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKuac80MtU2yyUNBzEAS4F26g0U8CLQM1nga8anjmy8gfGZsEEurF0JW-3qGVDVX5zINa9pF2uYNiEy0miZTMgVKIX8d4O9jD7Ox0MQu676TuP4HNsGjDLTH_hqQN_FSDMN_UiDVPBnoI/s400/decrease+%2528Medium%2529.JPG" style="display: block; height: 267px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /></a></div>
What I liked about this project:<br />
<ul>
<li>Knitting in good company for a good cause</li>
<li>It really is possible to knit a hat in a day</li>
<li>It's a luxury when some one else makes all the decisions on a project for me</li>
<li>I actually started and finished a project within days.....so unusual for me!</li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSuPFlzSs6miAiVhhH170tnd3ykU7QFhhegy_lyFqLo-Y89eSUHm-08sU6sv3_cChkLROK4BgVz6-VKHZAsD35FZ3UPvRWGsN681HY7YXKXwNgU937cW29-TqKEhMypz-wP_Xn4SKA8KI/s1600/flat+%2528Medium%2529.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708323873817377170" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSuPFlzSs6miAiVhhH170tnd3ykU7QFhhegy_lyFqLo-Y89eSUHm-08sU6sv3_cChkLROK4BgVz6-VKHZAsD35FZ3UPvRWGsN681HY7YXKXwNgU937cW29-TqKEhMypz-wP_Xn4SKA8KI/s400/flat+%2528Medium%2529.JPG" style="display: block; height: 361px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /></a></div>
What I'd do differently next time:<br />
<ul>
<li>I didn't use <a href="http://www.riversleafarm.com/wool-products.htm">Riverslea yarn</a> which bums me out because I'm curious about what it's like to work with</li>
<li>I didn't set aside as much of that day as I'd have liked....so I had hat homework!</li>
<li>Something about the decreases at the top of this pattern doesn't sit well with me.</li>
<li>I messed up, and forgot to make the "turn up" row, where instead of rib, it's a row of all knit. Ooops!!</li>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
Needles: US 7 double-pointed bamboo needles<br />
Yarn: Takhi yarn from the 1980's, probably Takhi tweed of some sort<br />
Pattern: <a href="http://www.centerstreetknits.com/Camo-Hat-p/x-patt-1441.htm"> Camo Hat</a> by Merri Fromm from Blue Sky Alpacas Pattern Leaflet: Traveler's Series<br />

<br />
Have you noticed that you can sing "Red Camo Hat" to the tune of "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cm6Bvcx4vJA">Red Solo Cup</a>"? (For some reason, that song is such an earworm for me....maddening! Luckily I didn't name this hat til I was done knitting, or I would have been singing that song in my head the whole time!)<br />

During that time, several cars passed on the road (about 50 feet in front of the fox). It would pick up its head and look around when that happened, but then puts its head back down.<br /><br />It was 18° F (-8° C) while we watched the fox. I would never have guessed that a fox would sleep out in the open like that. We watched from slightly before 7 a.m. until about 7:10. The sun was up the whole time.<br /><br />Sorry that I've included some blurry photos....This was pretty much at the limit of what my camera and lens could do in that limited light through the window into the sun.<br /><br />It was just so cool to see a fox wake up for the day. A lot of his actions, like the stretching and shaking his head, totally remind me of what Bailey does when he wakes up.<br /><br />On New Year's Day, <a href="http://acorntooak.blogspot.com/">Acorn to Oak</a> asked if I had any fox photos yet. Please join us at Main Street Art as we knit warm hats and mittens for the residents of New Horizons, a homeless shelter, soup kitchen and food pantry located in Manchester, New Hampshire.<br /><br />When: Tuesday, February 7TH from 8AM -8PM<br /><br />Where: <a href="http://www.newfieldsart.org/">Main Street Art</a><br /><br />75 Main Street, Newfields, New Hampshire, USA<br /><br />What: Patterns and yarn will be provided. (Optional-Bring your own yarn stash to share or trade.)<br /><br />Bring: Your own knitting needles and nimble fingers! (Size 7 needles or whatever you like with worsted weight yarn)<br /><br />On any given day in New Hampshire, there are 2,248 people who are homeless. -NH Coalition to End Homelessness<br /><br />I plan to be there for part of the afternoon and hopefully evening. I have no idea if I can knit a hat in a day, but I'll try!!!! Let me know if you plan to be there too!!<br /><br />Another local event of interest to knitters and weavers:<br /><a href="http://www.exetercongchurch.org/newsite/index.php?mact=Calendar,cntnt01,default,0&cntnt01event_id=33&cntnt01display=event&cntnt01lang=en_GB&cntnt01detailpage=83&cntnt01return_id=15&cntnt01returnid=83">Fuzz Fest</a> on Feb. 4 in Exeter, NH<br /><br />I'll try to pop in there too!!! Last year there was some local angora yarn that was so gorgeous. It's still tempting me!!Life Looms Largehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05522897791564181980noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3635600553883200682.post-67620847232259151862012-01-15T16:31:00.001-05:002012-01-15T16:31:00.117-05:00Sunday Shot of Color<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJiR5M0XIHWI5ZadsDcG4sAAtwkFUZEzjrwLhvNOmwUC3UFi1PrY9om947wpwFWyMTGGWUiLtRkV5spJ7NBD3roiSEsivUHcuR16__k_ZBqakKqz0GzWntnxP6rOa1w8EnvjC5OMnvlN8/s1600/bright+flower+%2528Medium%2529.JPG"><img style="display:block; Wentworth House (Photographed in July)<br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;">Wentworth House has a great story. My super short version is that it was built in 1710, then moved to Massachusetts where it stayed for years, falling into disrepair. In 2002, it was numbered, disassembled and moved back to NH on a flatbed truck. It remained in the trailer of the truck on this property for years, while a team of motivated people raised money to put the house back together. Finally they were able to reconstruct it. It was really interesting to see plants growing on the trees, plus to see the tree tops up close.<br /><br />At the end of the bridge, you can descend a stairway, or climb up more stairs to a tower above the canopy where you can see for miles.<br /><br />Good practice for canopy tours in the rain forest....one of my dream trips!!<br /></div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4_L4DxNTLIrA7pCA2hcRgHqjDo5T3ErAESnJmqC4Ofg7miwX7PqSJsds8GwVpm-LwXEGJ_vBuGivJ91jmqhwWOUTApMdUEOGCyORZRf2cic40uVnBVCty39iFdvhsjKXxlWRsV7Me-MX3/s1600/IMG_8181+%2528Medium%2529.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4_L4DxNTLIrA7pCA2hcRgHqjDo5T3ErAESnJmqC4Ofg7miwX7PqSJsds8GwVpm-LwXEGJ_vBuGivJ91jmqhwWOUTApMdUEOGCyORZRf2cic40uVnBVCty39iFdvhsjKXxlWRsV7Me-MX3/s400/IMG_8181+%2528Medium%2529.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5588915097594668370" border="0" /></a><br />Alligator in Myakka River State Park<br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;">The water level was low in March, since it's the end of the dry season in Florida. The park in Fort Myers is near the outflow from a power plant, where the water is warm.<br /><br />We met people who saw 20 or more manatees at one visit to this park. We visited twice and saw this single manatee.<br /><br />The manatee would stay under water for about 4 minutes, then surface and breathe twice, then head back under water. Even though I loved the class, pottery doesn't call to me the way weaving does.<br /><br />Maybe it's because I really, really dislike getting my hands wet or messy.....I'd rather bake than cook. I hate cleaning. Pottery is full of messy hands.....so it's fun, but I'm sticking with weaving and maybe exploring other visual arts for now.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH_zf1RdnIaw6qmPZShXMaEHZf1sr6qWaC18XqWaIOQMcC0itNm30Kzug7zo23iBPRUtXms4VzAe5bf-dy4_KQkpnTPkbv3WB9kfI8Ux8AaPujeTD4DDruO9cuUfsPl3jewrchMaLaFB4/s1600/vase+closeup+%2528Medium%2529.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 364px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH_zf1RdnIaw6qmPZShXMaEHZf1sr6qWaC18XqWaIOQMcC0itNm30Kzug7zo23iBPRUtXms4VzAe5bf-dy4_KQkpnTPkbv3WB9kfI8Ux8AaPujeTD4DDruO9cuUfsPl3jewrchMaLaFB4/s400/vase+closeup+%2528Medium%2529.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5591781537721176114" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">My vase</span><br /></div><br />I did like <a href="http://awindingthread.blogspot.com/">Deanna's</a> idea to use the pottery to inspire things to weave to go with it!!! Kind of fun really!)<br /><br />The Fire Pond Potters will take our pieces and finish them up, including glazing and firing them. I'll show you pictures as soon as I get the pieces back. (It might not be until summer....but for once it won't be due to my blog laziness.....it will be waiting for their kiln to fill up.)<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKlxQIy97VxPeV3o1m_3xjr_SqMibSc6ZCQTJUichBTYCgsRhSa0teTSCrGWZKsphB9Y6dtcWTq36-nfQ3KJR_0XIr38flZ7EoiHCbwrcKIiDsVqR0jWjf9-LtrPHAmyZ6obuX8BZqSwHi/s1600/studio+%2528Medium%2529.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKlxQIy97VxPeV3o1m_3xjr_SqMibSc6ZCQTJUichBTYCgsRhSa0teTSCrGWZKsphB9Y6dtcWTq36-nfQ3KJR_0XIr38flZ7EoiHCbwrcKIiDsVqR0jWjf9-LtrPHAmyZ6obuX8BZqSwHi/s400/studio+%2528Medium%2529.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5591130080178207826" border="0" /></a><br />I cannot say enough good things about this class.<br /><br />I loved how the teachers explained and demonstrated things just enough, and then turned us loose. They were right there to help if we were having trouble, or if we asked for help, but they also weren't jumping in telling people what they were doing wrong or anything like that.<br /><br />They were totally great about asking if you wanted help and never touching your work or giving you advice unless you asked for it. (I love that.....I've been known to get quite annoyed in classes where a teacher is on top of my work too much!)<br /><br />Also, they were very generous with information, and with setting up the day so that we all got to work on the wheels for hours.<br /><br />If you're in the area and you've ever thought about trying pottery, this is a great way to give it a whirl. Low commitment, low cost, fun.<br /><br />They've got another class scheduled for next Saturday, April 9. There may still be spaces left, so look for info at <a href="http://www.exeterfinecrafts.com/courses.html">Exeter Fine Crafts</a>. (I'd phone them ASAP about next Saturday.) I you want to be on Larry and Jessica's email list so they can notify you when they set up a class, you can contact them through their <a href="http://www.firepondpottery.com/home.html">website</a>.Life Looms Largehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05522897791564181980noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3635600553883200682.post-40885885861928711272011-02-15T13:15:00.001-05:002012-02-12T13:17:11.853-05:00February Dreaming<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCtWpEih0it7-7ZBfqm3cIoLdZU6MmsS6uoYnB2fYNio0PaoqQ_giWmsnbdaWETFKy3QS9x6K7_VxYeHcXjxsqxiqr4T5XuCSoWVxAsMGPZe-xfwy_KByhzcrabjwJpwToXip8GP_egPg/s1600/February+Dreaming+of+Knits+with+deep+snow+%2528Medium%2529.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCtWpEih0it7-7ZBfqm3cIoLdZU6MmsS6uoYnB2fYNio0PaoqQ_giWmsnbdaWETFKy3QS9x6K7_VxYeHcXjxsqxiqr4T5XuCSoWVxAsMGPZe-xfwy_KByhzcrabjwJpwToXip8GP_egPg/s400/February+Dreaming+of+Knits+with+deep+snow+%2528Medium%2529.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708314682268415618" /></a><br /><br />Hatching lots of knitting plans, mostly for hats....Life Looms Largehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05522897791564181980noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3635600553883200682.post-55254128274660107612011-02-14T14:45:00.004-05:002011-02-14T14:52:16.479-05:00Happy Valentine's Day<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhecL6YeYkXyFyj51QAO24HHUbgRl5jfy99dUdCc_bIf3tXmWiTSzakJqDdqg4g-WtkbntqkNgzTbSJ9QBer6vQ1mga_32S1oJrP_XUDlj0lq_7RF5K-skW7GrD6H3rAc6UT94U0M-W76F0/s1600/hearts+%2528Medium%2529.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 228px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhecL6YeYkXyFyj51QAO24HHUbgRl5jfy99dUdCc_bIf3tXmWiTSzakJqDdqg4g-WtkbntqkNgzTbSJ9QBer6vQ1mga_32S1oJrP_XUDlj0lq_7RF5K-skW7GrD6H3rAc6UT94U0M-W76F0/s400/hearts+%2528Medium%2529.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5573634724802627906" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-style: italic;">Doubleweave Pick Up</span><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Finished, but not blogged yet!</span><br /></div><span style="font-size:130%;"><br /><br /></span><div style="text-align: center;"><span style=";font-family:lucida grande;font-size:130%;" ><span style="color: rgb(204, 0, 0);">Wishing you and yours a happy Valentine's Day!</span></span></div>Life Looms Largehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05522897791564181980noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3635600553883200682.post-37843411226375245292011-02-08T20:38:00.004-05:002011-02-08T20:38:00.113-05:00Knitting a Cowl<span style="font-weight: bold;">Inspiration</span><br />During a moment of panic while I was weaving my<a href="http://lifeloomslarge.blogspot.com/2009/12/celebrating-new-year.html"> First Time at WEBS Scarves</a>, I believed more yarn was the answer. I stopped at<a href="http://www.hubmillsstore.com/"> Hub Mills Store</a> in Lowell to pick up a few balls of yarn that went with that warp.<br />Later, I realized I didn't need that extra yarn for that project after all.<br />So I wanted to find something beautiful on ravelry to make with this ball of yarn.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh75wLHE5I-iknG08sK0DA4_pQcc04WwrDMrybJ684py76f2UYbgna9Ej7kjOY2dj0Y9qxCHDC_807J3t2g6HhgozyZ5jho1fURgENG5Vy__BElymahyII-cmXHaIWs1wJH2iz6g5F8b1l5/s1600/cowl+%2528Medium%2529.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 280px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh75wLHE5I-iknG08sK0DA4_pQcc04WwrDMrybJ684py76f2UYbgna9Ej7kjOY2dj0Y9qxCHDC_807J3t2g6HhgozyZ5jho1fURgENG5Vy__BElymahyII-cmXHaIWs1wJH2iz6g5F8b1l5/s400/cowl+%2528Medium%2529.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571424938243037906" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Motivation</span><br />I put my started knitting projects in one place recently when I was cleaning up for houseguests.
