Over the weekend, I blogged about an outstanding 4 hour pottery class.
I was surprised that a few of you thought I should explore pottery further. Even though I loved the class, pottery doesn't call to me the way weaving does.
Maybe it's because I really, really dislike getting my hands wet or messy.....I'd rather bake than cook. I hate cleaning. Pottery is full of messy hands.....so it's fun, but I'm sticking with weaving and maybe exploring other visual arts for now.

I did like Deanna's idea to use the pottery to inspire things to weave to go with it!!! Maybe by the time the pots are glazed and returned to me, I'll have one of my looms freed up for a new project and I'll be inspired by something from pottery class!!
Or maybe I'll just enjoy the four hour experience and let it enrich my life without having to do anything further with it at all....well, except for eating ice cream out of each of the three bowls at some point. How's that for a goal?!
In answer to Deanna's question, we did get to choose from 3 glaze colors: brown, blue and emerald green. I think I chose 2 blues, 1 green and 1 half blue/half green glaze for my 4 pieces. At the top of the picture above, you can see our glaze possibilities on plain blue, plain emerald and plain brown samples.
Now we have to be patient, since the Fire Pond Potters said it might take up to 3 months to get the pots back!!
I promise to post pictures, and if you come by the house, I'll even serve you ice cream in one of the bowls!!

I understand....there are only so many hours in a day, and you should do what you really enjoy. But, aren't you glad your dabbled in pottery????
It's all so very pretty. I look forward to seeing yours when you get it back. I can eat ice cream out of anything in the meantime, though. ;)

I would love to explore pottery sometimes too. but I am affraid I might find it so nice to do that I have to have my own workshop ha, ha, so I don't start.
And what dear blogger, is on those looms??? The pottery looks like great fun but I agree, I like cleaner hand pursuits too. :)

I used to do pottery many years ago and I did love it but when it came time some 4 years ago to decide upon what craft I wanted to pursue, that didn't make the running. Weaving called to me and I am so glad it did!

I can't stand to be sticky/messy but it was different with the pottery. I think it has to do with the fact that when you are done, the object will last forever unlike cooking/baking which requires hours of input and only minutes to devour it! You sure have done great work even if it isn't your future calling!
Sometimes we just want to experience a new craft or art - It doesn't mean we have to keep it up forever...
I love the fact that you enjoyed making the pottery - and can't wait to see how it all turns out.

Where the Tuesday Weavers meet, there's a pottery studio right next door, and sometimes I think it would be so fun. But I'm with you: dirt under my fingernails drives me nuts, and it's so messy! As I type this, I'm doing so with garden dirt-encrusted nails, so what do I know? I love your pottery, though!
Glad I'm not the only one who's tried pottery, but got hooked on weaving!!!

How amazing. I am a potter who has had to put the hobby aside for awhile due to circumstances beyond my control and am taking up weaving. One use I have for the end product will be to display my pottery.
