Streets

"Streets" is the assignment this week at Digital Photography School.

Tough assignment for me. In all of my photos of streets, there were things that really spoke to me - trees, buildings, water. Still, I couldn't quite capture an image of a street that was really satisfying for me.

I walked around in Portsmouth and Exeter, New Hampshire for several hours in search of pictures. I feel like I need a week's extension at least!! But here's what I have:

Now that I've said all that, and been disappointed with my photos, when I see the final collection I'm not so disappointed. Of course some topics are really inspiring to me and others not so much. All part of the creative process.

I think they're lovely! I think this is one of those cases when, as artists of one stripe or another, we are much more critical of our work than is warranted. :)

Roads are a means to get somewhere, not a focal point of any trip so that probably has something to do with your disappointment, too. The pictures all look lovely-I like a road in paintings cuz it draws your eye across the canvas--so you have accomplished the movement the course was encouraging!

Your photos SCREAM New England. I used to play volleyball against Phillips Exeter Academy back in my younger days. You're taking me back.

I love them because they inform me about the streets where you live, but I know what you mean. Self editing in photography, especially now that we can almost drown multiple images, makes it hard when it comes timeto make our selections.

Pretty photos, as usual! I love the narrow streets and old houses in Portsmouth!

I understand your struggle with photographing streets. I tend to find that I see or experience so much more than what the camera captured - particularly depth or detail. I'll see something half a block down that I find facinating and want to frame it, but then it's barely noticable in the photo. I think you did a great job with something that is difficult to catch.
