Evidence of Late Summer

Now in bloom - the flowers of late summer.

Purple Coneflower

Goldenrod

Green acorn

Our driveway gets covered with acorns. We hear them crunching under the tires whenever we back out of the garage.

Sumac fruit

Black-eyed Susans

Impatiens

Blue Hydrangea

It has been hot, hot, hot here the last few days. (Don't laugh at my northern sensibilities - but we're having our first temperatures over 90° F, or 32.2° C.)

It's predicted to stay hot, hot, hot this week.

Finally I feel like we're getting our well-deserved summer.

So green - sigh. Is there a downside? Please tell it to me and put me out of my envy misery.

LOL, maybe it's time to head back to the beach?
August in NE can be counted on for at least one heat wave if I remember correctly. Flowers look beautiful. Our late summer array is some santolina and tons of St. John's Wort.
We'll be warming up this week into the low 90's too, after a week or so of low 70's and high 60's. No humidity though. Enjoy the lushness, fall is just around the corner.

Beautiful summer flower photos.

Hey I agree anything over 90 is hot! I would love to find someplace the stays between 65 and 85 - but I'm sure that means I'd have to endure a lot of rain! I particularly like the picture of the acorn - good macro!

I played a Black Eyed Susan back in a grade 1 play more years ago than I care to remember! My teacher was quite original.

I noticed that you converted the temperature to Celcius for us northerners.... very nice, thanks!

You've had a nice summer this year.. you live in a lovely part of the world.

I hate this heat wave we're having too but the humidity is even worse. Keeps me inside.

Nice pictures!!

Downsides to NH....ask me in February!!! Or March....when winter is lasting too long! I might also include biting insects in the downsides....they're pretty fierce this summer due to all the rain.

Thanks for the photo compliments!!

Glad to hear that even to a southerner, 90 feels hot. I skip more runs due to summer heat than to winter cold, that's for sure!! California might have the perfect climate temperature-wise....but we haven't found the right CA spot to move. We seriously thought we'd move there about 5 years ago. No plans in that direction now though.

That's funny that you played a Black-eyed Susan in school! I used to hate all the Susan references in elementary school: Black-eyed Susan, Oh Susannah (a song), and worst of all, the Lazy Susan in a Chinese restaurant.

According to the forecast, we have two more days in the 90's, then the temperature drops back to the 80's. Wonder if that will feel refreshing?

I agree, 90° F is not no matter where you are!

Great flower photos. I'm planning to plant some coneflower and black eyed susans next year.

Glad to get reinforcement from another southerner that 90 is hot! (Now, the people out west who say "but it's a dry heat...." I wonder what they think of 90?)

Glad you'll have some flowers too. I like how much beauty they provide for so little effort on my part!

Lazy Susans are the WORST!!! and there was one on my Grandma's dining table which I heard a lot about from the siblings. I have come to love Black Eyed Susans though, and am loving the ones blooming out back along with the goldenrod and queen Anne's Lace...

If NH is anything like Maine, downsides could include Very Short Days in the winter, and Mud Season (March through May) leading right into (as Sue mentioned) the biting insects... here it's black flies, followed by mosquitos, and now we're on to the deer and horse flies... Also for my husband, a beetle and moth collector from MD, there are Not Enough Bugs!

I agree! Lazy Susan's really tick me off. In fact, in every home we have owned, they are renamed Lazy Fred's ( no offense to Fred's... but how many of them do you meet nowadays?)

Our realtor took note of the new name and changed her terminology.

By the way... I'm a Susan H. as well. ( Harvey)

We do have a ferocious biting insect season - especially with West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis. EEE has caused some very severe illnesses in our tiny town....so in summer I'm slathered in a toxic mixture of sunscreen and bug spray. It's almost enough to make me wish for a killing frost.

And the short winter days....you guys both live north of me, so your days must be at least a few minutes shorter....but still. I don't like to think about that right now.

I like renaming Lazy Susans.....I'll have to do that next time I encounter such a beast! My grandmother had one too - at the breakfast table in the kitchen. Luckily I seldom see one in everyday life any more!!

Oh wait....I forgot to shriek at Frank for wishing for more bugs!!! (At least he doesn't wish for biting insects!)
