Sometimes, If You Wait a Week

things really do look better.

Remember how last week, after we painted the sunroom, I was deeply uncertain about the color choice?

We decided to wait a week.

This week we like it much more. It's still not what I imagined, but I like how the walls came out. If we repaint with either of the yellow colors that are part of this wall treatment, it makes the terracotta layer look muddy and undefined. We're leaving it as is for the foreseeable future.

We did move a few things around so that I won't have to look at so much of the terracotta floor tile against the walls.

In the summer, we put Super Solar Screen over the two skylights to keep the sunroom cooler. Jim goes up on the roof and ties the screen around the skylights with blue nylon rope. It really does keep the temperature cooler, and slightly darkens the room. We do this to the skylights in my studio also. We also have a few screens in sunny parts of the house that we've replaced with Super Solar Screen. Just as I got used to the new paint color, we put up the screens and darkened the room slightly.

On hot days, this room does feel like a cool refuge in a hacienda somewhere far from New Hampshire.

We moved this rug to the middle of the big section of tile (instead of at the door). Some day I'll weave a rug for this room.....that was actually part of the plan when I purchased my Toika Liisa loom!

In the winter, when the light changes again, we may change our minds and paint again. Or we might love this paint so much by then that we won't even think about it!!! For now, we're happy with it and are glad we painted the sunroom these colors!

I love, love, love the pottery and the birch bark vase against this wall color!

When I originally posted about painting, I included details of the specific paint colors so that in the future I'll know just where to find that information. Surprisingly, I've had blog visits from people searching for those exact colors of paint. I guess I'm not the only one who relies heavily on google!!

Thanks for all of your words of wisdom and encouragement with this project! All in all, it was a satisfying project to complete!!

Yay Google! I'd be the first to admit that warm colors aren't my "thing," but you made a smashing success of the whole look. Well done!

So glad you are warming u to the room. It looks great and I can hardly wait to see what you come up with for a rug....you know, you only really need two shafts to do one. :-)

I love it,it is so warm and cozy. I could see curling up with a good book or a lapfull of knitting. A very inviting space.

I give it two thumbs up - no three!! I love wall color when I see it and always wonder why I love my white walls. It's because I'd have to take down all the art to paint the walls - ugh. I'm lazy. I think you did a great job.

Thanks for the compliments you guys! The sunroom is really great to spend time in - both in winter and summer!! I curl up with my computer a lot, and knitting, books or magazines sometimes.

Theresa, good point about only needing 2 shafts to do a rug! The loom is all set! I, however, am not all set. I feel like a rug might be kind of hard for me....so I'm heading in an easier direction for the moment. (Plus, it doesn't help that I could buy this rug at Target for so little money!)

Oh bah Target!! :-) Rugs are pretty easy and forgiving and your Toika can certainly handle the tension. Save your scraps, buy some fabric on sale , use old t-shirts and get your toes wet doing a little one first. Carpet warp is inexpensive too. In fact I'm collecting old jeans to do a couple of blue jean scatter rugs for our new sun room, assuming the windows EVER get put in.

You know, I was just thinking back to the last time I was at a Target or even a mall, must be going on 4 years at this point. I count my lucky stars every day that Ashland has a lovely selection of small independent shops that fill most of my needs. LOL, the Grange Co-op or Big R is kind of like my superstore. And of course, Home Depot or Lowes.

Theresa,

Hmmmm....food for thought. I've definitely been saving old clothes and such. I'm actually thinking of turning part of my huck warp into placemats....using some kind of thicker weft. Maybe that could start me thinking more in a rug-like direction!!

GREAT! I'm glad you waited and are ahppy with the room. It is very warm and inviting and I'm sure in NH it's wonderful to a hacienda! Definitely where I'd spend most of my time - if not in the studio!
